A total of 186 residents from the Moshi District Council are set to benefit from TZS 424.5 million under the council’s 10 percent internal revenue loans scheme for the fourth quarter of the 2025/2026 financial year, as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to empower citizens economically.
The funds will benefit members of 38 groups that qualified for the loans after successfully completing capacity-building training focused on financial management, entrepreneurship, and loan repayment.
Speaking during the closing of the training sessions, the Executive Director of the Moshi District Council, Mr. Shadrack Mhagama, said that the 10 percent loan scheme remains an important tool for economic empowerment, but its success depends on discipline, honesty, and proper use of the funds.
Mhagama emphasized that trustworthiness in the use and repayment of loans is essential to ensuring that the revolving fund continues to benefit more citizens in the future.
He noted that previous experience has shown women to have a higher level of accountability and commitment in managing and repaying loans, which has strengthened the council’s confidence in extending more support to women under the scheme.
“When we empower our people, we expect to see real economic transformation. It is the responsibility of every beneficiary to ensure that these funds are used for the intended purpose,” said Mhagama.
He also warned beneficiaries against misusing the loans for non-productive purposes, noting that such practices often lead to repayment challenges.
In addition, he condemned the practice of some guarantors charging fees to those they guarantee, stressing that such acts are illegal as they reduce the borrower’s capital before business operations even begin.
Meanwhile, the 10 percent loans coordinator for the Moshi District Council, Ms. Stella Magori, said the 38 trained groups have been categorized into three special groups.
She explained that 24 women’s groups will receive TZS 272,206,200, eight youth groups will receive TZS 127,300,000, while six groups for people with disabilities will receive TZS 25,000,000.
Ms. Magori further stated that out of the 186 beneficiaries, 148 are women and 38 are men, reflecting the strong participation of women in utilizing government-provided loan opportunities to improve their economic well-being.
The 10 percent loan programme continues to serve as one of the key strategies of the Moshi District Council in reducing poverty, promoting entrepreneurship, and increasing the participation of special groups in economic development activities.
