Nine-Year-Old Pupil Launches School App as Abel Memorial Marks Eighth Anniversary Standard Four pupil Andrey Abel unveils “Abel Memorial Kiganjani”, a paperless platform connecting parents with the school, during a ceremony that also celebrated the Standard Seven graduating class. |
DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA — 2 September 2026
Abel Memorial Pre and Primary School has unveiled a mobile application designed by one of its own pupils. Andrey Abel, a nine-year-old Standard Four student, developed the app, named Abel Memorial Kiganjani, to give parents direct, paper-free access to essential school information.
The app was launched at the school’s eighth-anniversary celebration and Standard Seven graduation ceremony, held in Dar es Salaam over the weekend. It was among the highlights of an event that showcased the school’s growing emphasis on technology, environmental responsibility and character formation.
A PUPIL-LED STEP TOWARDS A PAPERLESS SCHOOL
Asked what inspired the project, Andrey said his aim was to cut the school’s reliance on paper and, in doing so, contribute to protecting the environment.

Through Abel Memorial Kiganjani, parents can expect to find school updates and information about their children in one place, complementing the school’s existing website and social media channels.
INVESTING IN DIGITAL LEARNING AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE
Speaking earlier in the programme, Engineer Stanslaus Mwalongo, Founder and Director of Abel Memorial Pre and Primary School, outlined the institution’s plans to keep pace with the wider digital transformation. He announced that the school intends to expand its ICT laboratory with additional computers, strengthening the practical, hands-on component of ICT instruction.
The Director further disclosed plans to construct dormitories for Standard Four and Standard Seven pupils. The facilities will house candidates during national examination periods, providing a focused environment intended to lift academic performance.
BUILDING CHARACTER ALONGSIDE COMPETENCE
The ceremony opened with a Holy Mass led by Father Paul Malewa of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Bunju. In his homily, Father Malewa urged parents to invest deliberately in their children’s upbringing so that they mature into responsible adults.

The programme was further enlivened by pupil performances, with students demonstrating their skills in mathematics and languages, alongside fashion and traditional dance displays that reflected the school’s commitment to well-rounded development.
