GENEVA, — Bilateral engagement between Tanzania and Mexico continued this week as Dr. Hoyce Temu, Tanzania’s Deputy Permanent Representative in Geneva, met with Ambassador Fernando Israel Espinosa Olivera, Mexico’s Deputy Permanent Representative, for a courtesy call at the Mexico Mission.
“Strengthening Tanzania-Mexico relations means finding practical intersections where our priorities meet global challenges,” Dr. Temu said.
The dialogue centered on building shared vocabulary to support future cooperation, with terms like “shared stewardship” and “community-led data” emerging as common ground. “Courtesy calls don’t produce signatures,” Dr. Temu added. “They produce the trust and terminology that make later agreements possible.”
Dr. Temu later noted the discussion in a brief statement: “Courtesy to the Mexico Mission in Geneva. Great discussions with the deputy permanent representative on many fronts related to bilateral diplomacy.”
Tanzania and Mexico established diplomatic relations on February 19, 1973. Ties were significantly bolstered in the 1970s when President Julius Nyerere visited Mexico to seek expertise in planning Tanzania’s new capital, Dodoma.
